September 20-23, 2024: From Paper to Print w/Georgia Deal & Denise Markbreit

TIME: 10:00 to 4:00 each day - with a 1/2 hour lunch break.

This first two days of this printmaking workshop will be taught by Guest Artist & Printmaker Georgia Deal. To learn about Georgia and her printmaking please scroll to the Bio at the bottom of this listing. The second two days will be taught by APS owner & Printmaker Denise Markbreit.

In this four day immersive experience we will be meeting in two convenient locations and you will experience a special workshop combo - Paper Making and Mono Print processes!

DAYS 1 & 2 will be held at Swannanoa Paper, Georgia Deal’s studio in West Asheville.

  • Georgia’s studio is a fully equipped professional paper making studio and includes all the tools needed including: a Hollander paper beater, a 20 ton hydraulic press, a large variety of deckles and molds and two large dryer boxes.

  • You will be able to produce a range of specialty papers of various fiber and colors for printing on.

  • The paper will be dried quickly so that it may be used on day 3 and 4.

DAYS 3 & 4 will be held at Asheville Print Studio & Gallery in the River Arts District and taught by Denise Markbreit

  • APS&G is a fully equipped profession print studio that includes an assortment of presses and all tools needed to print both relief and intaglio prints.

  • Students will be introduced to Akua Ink and an assortment of mono print techniques. All printing will be done on the paper made in the previous two days.

  • All levels of learners are encouraged.

  • Materials needed for this workshop are covered by the included materials fee.

  • Workshop limited to 8 students.

GEORGIA DEAL

Georgia is a printmaker and paper maker who works in mixed-media processes on handmade paper. She chaired the Printmaking & Papermaking department at the Corcoran School of Art & Design in Washington, DC and has taught workshops worldwide. Her work is held in private and public collections including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Yale University. Georgia lives and founded her studio, Swannanoa Paper, in Asheville NC.
